Welcome

“Courage doesn’t happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life.”

Shannon L. Alder

**I am not accepting new clients at this time (updated April 2024)**

I work with adolescents (15+) and adults, and specialize in counseling individuals wanting to address:

Depression

Gender and Sexuality

Trauma

Substance Use

Finding a counselor that is the right fit in terms of personality and expertise is essential for successful counseling. I have extensive training and education in the areas I specialize, so that I can be an effective counselor. While I would like to be able to help each person that reaches out to me, I am realistic and know that I cannot take on clients who's needs are outside my scope of knowledge. If you are seeking counseling and currently or historically have addressed OCD, disordered eating, or a psychotic disorder I will not be the right fit for you as my training in these areas in minimal.

Telehealth

I am currently only meeting with clients via a HIPAA compliant video platform. I intend to continue offering video counseling even after I return to seeing clients in person, in order to provide easier access to those that may not be able to attend in person.  Utilizing video counseling also allows me to serve anyone who resides in NC. If you have questions about telehealth please let me know.

Individual Counseling

I work with adolescents (15+) and adults to provide comprehensive counseling based on each individual's needs, whether related to mental health, substance use, or both. The focus of our counseling sessions is on your goals and current level of functioning. I will always collaborate with you to ensure we are focused on the areas which led you to contact me, and always welcome feedback regarding what has been most-and least- helpful to you in current or previous counseling endeavors. Individual sessions are typically 45 to 55 minutes in length.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based practice to help people who have experienced trauma. EMDR helps individuals reprocess traumatic memories in a more complete way, aiding in growth. Clients with PTSD often find EMDR to be beneficial in reducing stress responses to triggers. Not all individuals that have experienced traumatic events are appropriate for EMDR; please inquire further if you are interested in this approach.

LGBTQ+ Counseling

I work with individuals of varying genders and sexual orientations. It is my perspective that those looking to better understand their identities or sexual orientations can benefit from the supportive, non-judgmental environment that counseling provides. I regularly advocate for LGBTQ+ individuals by staying in contact with medical providers (surgeons, those prescribing HRT, etc), through interaction with local queer support organizations, and by strongly supporting policies and legislation which promote inclusiveness for all in the LGBTQ+ community.

Pro Bono/Low Fee Counseling

I have several slots on my case load reserved for individuals in need of counseling services pro bono or at a significantly reduced fee. I believe that everyone can benefit from counseling and finances should not exclude one from being able to access this care. If I have a current opening for pro bono/low fee clients it will be list below. Please use the contact form on the "Contact LRC" tab to reach out and indicate that you are interested in the pro bono/low fee counseling. I will follow up with a questionnaire to ensure I am serving those most in need while still operating within my area of clinical training. Priority is given to queer BIPOC and other marginalized community members.

Current opening: None at this time.
